OFFICER BOARD 2013-2014
Board Director: Daniel Chan
- The board director approves and oversees all board members, and is the link between the WHS Officers and the Board. In administrating the board members, the board director also guides and trains board members into leading the club as possible officers.
My name is Daniel Chan, and I will be serving as your 2013-2014 Board Director. I am excited to continue my third year in Washington Interact’s Club, and attend the countless events our district holds in such a short year. I encourage all of you to step out of your comfort zones and meet countless people from cities outside of Fremont, attend events hosted not only by us but from different schools and areas. I look forward to meeting all of you; I am an open and cheerful person most of the time so make sure to meet me!
So a little background information about me—I joined Interact in my freshman year, as a junior of the year 2013-2014 I have gained countless life changing experiences from Interact. Each event has improved me as a person, and as a leader overall. Through the times of difficulties and times of prosperity I have learned that accomplishment is just a feeling of which you can acquire through hard work. It is not the feeling of accomplishment you should strive for, it is the experience that you should take into heart. With each experience a person is made, and through Interact I have learned that the person I strive to be is far away, yet reachable. It is up to you whether or not you will let you as a person grow throughout the experiences you gain from Interact, and whether or not you will apply it into the life you live from now on. I can personally say that everything I have acquired from Interact has changed me as a person, and given me the motivation to put my life and my goals in my own hands. The truth of reality is this though, I as a freshman was not a dedicated individual as I am now. I was slacking, basically a borderline active member. I thought of Interact as a chance to get my service hours and fulfill my expectations. But during my sophomore year’s Fall Leadership conference (an event that YOU will have a chance to attend) my mindset totally changed. I no longer thought of Interact as a club, but rather a family. I no longer found service hours as something I needed; it was an essentially a “pat on the back” for saving lives across the world. My motivation was the smiles of children who would laugh cheerfully without even knowing who their savior was. It was the fact that we as Interactors had put Service above Self. And as a person who was changed by Interact, I encourage you as an individual to give Interact a chance to show you your own path.
I was a Board Member during my sophomore year; it was truly the most changing year of my life. It had given me insurmountable opportunities to take part in events that I usually just attended when I was a regular member, and experiences that to this day change me as a person. And as your 2013-2014 Board Director I will give the chance to those who are the board members of the fall and spring year to not only learn from Interact, but become an amazing leader. I encourage everyone to apply for board member next year, we will have limited spots so be sure to show your passion in the limited time you have. Put yourself out there and do not be afraid to show your prowess, only then can you make a difference in a world where you co-exist with 7 billion other individuals. I believe each person has the chance to make their own destiny, and each person has the ability to reach their dreams. Don’t worry as there will be first and second semester board members, meaning that we will be choosing new board members for each semester. If you do not make it in the first semester, there is the second semester to pursue.
You will see that most of the officer’s descriptions talk about them being changed by Interact, this is not a fluke or by chance. It is because Interact has the ability to do so, but the question is if you will give Interact a chance to change you.
There are three things required to be successful.
1) Passion
2) Innovation
3) Determination
And as Isaac Newton once said, “We stand on the shoulders of the giants who stood before us." Only then can we reach the success that we dream for so innovatively.
Secretary Adriel Sarpolio
- The secretary takes minutes at all club meetings, including those of the Officer and Board. It is the responsibility of the secretary to turn all meeting minutes into ASB. He also manages the club member directory (active & total) , as well as the club e-mail account, throughout the year. The secretary writes all the community service hours for any event and records them on an annual master service hour database.
Before I was secretary, I was a board member for both freshman and sophomore year. Being a board member allowed me to learn more about Interact and was really a great opportunity. Before I joined Interact I was a very shy person, I did not have much confidence in myself. My freshman year, I joined Interact originally to just get community service hours, but that quickly changed after Fall Leadership Conference. FLC taught me so many things about Interact and about how to become a great leader. That is the moment I really developed my passion for Interact. Every event I went to after that added more to that passion I developed at FLC. I became a board member to become more involved in the club that I dedicated most of my time too. Again in sophomore year I became a board member, which allowed me to grow as a person and develop more as a leader. That year I was able to attend PWR (Presidents Winter Retreat), which was an amazing experience. I saw myself getting out of my comfort zone and really starting to become a more confident person. That confidence I developed from being in Interact for two years inspired me to apply for secretary. Unlike before I was confident now and knew that I had the skills to be successful at it. Now here I am secretary, two years ago I would have never thought that I would be able to obtain this goal. As secretary, I write your community service hours, take meeting minutes at each Interact meeting, and keep track of the hours on our website.
All through Interact I was able to change drastically as a person and a leader. Through my passion and dedication I was able to succeed at many things and I think you guys can too. I hope that this year, you will be able to develop the passion I did for Interact and really love it. I think you should join Interact because you are helping out other people, developing yourself as a person and leader, and having fun all at the same time. Who wouldn’t want to do that? As long as you think you can do it, you can reach any goal you set.
Treasurer Joshua Chang
- The treasurer oversees the club's financial account, deposits, withdrawals, and officer reimbursements. He also organizes club fundraisers and verifies and approves all details with the Co-Presidents & ASB. The treasurer provides all club profits (total & raised) to report and donate for the District's International Project.
A little information about myself. I am a dedicated Christian and definitely put my faith above anything else. I also enjoy playing, writing and listening to all different types of music. To me, music is a large part of my life and is more than a hobby to me. I would like to say that I am very easy to approach and fun to hang around but that might not the case for everyone. Still, I hope that we can meet this upcoming year and enjoy all the experiences that the club will provide.
Publicity Coordinator Ian Gunady
- The publicity coordinator takes pictures at all club events and fundraisers. He manages the club website, as well as all other areas of social networking. The publicity coordinator also creates flyers as needed to publicize important club updates and events. It is the responsibility of the publicity coordinator to ensure that all club members are aware of these events, through bulletin announcements and meeting slideshows.
I look forward to serving along side you as your 2013-2014 Publicity Coordinator! I love swimming, chocolate ice cream, and most of all, you. My Interact career began as a general member freshman year. As a sophomore, I was a board member, and I am now an publicity as a junior. I will keep you well informed about what is going on in Interact, and together, we can accomplish great things. Just look at what we have done so far; what we have done so far is a testament to what we can accomplish in the future. The future is a simple equation: the more we serve along side each other, the bigger the difference we make in this world.
For both new and returning Interactors, I encourage you to come out to our meetings and service and bonding events. We will build lasting friendships and make unforgettable memories... we are going to have a great year together! Peace. Love. Interact. -Ian
Outreach Coordinator Jamie Kuang
- The outreach coordinator responds to all inquiries made by outside relations. She is also the liaison between WHS Officers and our sponsoring Rotary club, Niles Rotary through our Rotarian Advisor. The outreach coordinator attends Rotary meetings once a quarter to inform our Rotarian and Rotary club of all club and area events and communicates with Rotarians on a frequent basis.
Washington Interactors!
Are you ready for another exciting year filled with laughs and service? I AM! To start off, my name is Jamie Kuang and I am going to be your 2013-2014 Outreach Coordinator. I love cute miniature items, making people laugh, and most importantly performing service. I have been passionately active in Interact since my freshmen year helping out within our community from the start. Interact has brought out the best in me, transforming my shy self into the leader I am today. Without Interact, I wouldn't have had the courage to speak in front of others or have a loving family that create countless memories performing service together.
I hope most of you, new and returning Interactors, are ecstatic for another fun filled year! This year we have plenty of service events, bonding events, and fundraising opportunities to not only fulfill your hours requirement, but also have a memorable experience. Come to our first meeting and we'll share our Interact spirit welcoming you into our family.

Husky Interactors! My name is Sumana Krishnakumar and I am one of the 2013-2014 First Semester Board Members. Interact is such a prominent part of my life, I absolutely love the service events and working together as a family to achieve the International and Community Projects. Empower change, that is exactly what I aim to do this year, and I'm sure Washington Interact as a whole can and WILL do this. I joined Interact as a freshman, but was not an active member, I soon regretted that and vowed to myself that I would be more involved sophomore year. Now as a junior, I am glad I made the choice to step up and commit. Interact is a huge family and I have met so many amazing and hardworking people. With all the Interactors' friendly, hardworking and dedicated spirits, we can achieve anything because the sky's the limit! Anh Nguyen (1, 2)

One of the biggest lessons however, is that service is the only thing that matters. If are one of those people who are curious about what Interact is and what it does, I can guarantee you that Interact will change the way you think and feel if you are willing to put the time and effort into it. Always remember to empower change and inspire the uninspired. Become an inspiration. I have met many people, alike and unalike, and it’s safe to say that I have been called weird more than my actual name. As a freshman, every experience is a memory and every memory creates a life worth living. Interact has already opened new doors providing moments to be shared and to be saved. Sri Godavarti (1, 2)
Hey everyone! My name is Sri Godavarti and I am super excited to be your board member this semester. Being a freshman, I signed up for as many clubs as I could, but after Fall Leadership Conference (FLC) I learned that Interact was more than a club. I realized that Interact gave ordinary students like us an opportunity to make a change in our community and in our world, so I decided to be more than a general member. I am looking forward to our projects “Heart” and “The Answer is the Sun” this year and the long lasting memories with my fellow Interactors! Toby Lee (1, 2)

I hope to lead this club one day and I am determined to do it. I seriously am exited to work with you guys this semester and please if you hardly go to events and meetings I encourage you to go and it might change your life how interact changed my life. |
